Police

All adult protection concerns reported to Police Scotland will be thoroughly investigated. Under the Adult Support and Protection legislation, Police Scotland have a statutory obligation to record and share information concerning Adults at Risk with the relevant Local Authority. Police Scotland will investigate any allegations of criminality towards an Adult at Risk.

Police Scotland Adult Protection Roles

When a Police Officer comes into contact with an individual who they believe to be an Adult at Risk they will ensure that the adult is removed from harm. The incident will then be fully investigated and the Adult left in a safe place at the conclusion of Police involvement.

The Police Officer will then ensure the Adults details are recorded and Social Work are contacted at the time of the incident if required.

In the Lanarkshire Division of Police Scotland there are 2 Adult Protection Referral Co-ordinators (APRC) who are based within Blantyre Police Office. It is the role of the APRC to create a referral from the information provided by the Police Officer. They will then forward this Adult at Risk referral to the relevant Local Authority Social Work Department within one working day.

Protection Order

Where a Banning Order is in place with a Power of Arrest attached, Police Scotland will be notified. When alerted that a Banning Order has been breached, Police can arrest the subject of a Banning Order when it is clear the Order has been breached and the subject is likely to breach the Order again if they are not arrested.

The subject of the Banning Order will then be held in Police Custody until the next Court day.

When requested, Police can assist the Council Officer in undertaking their duties in relation to Removal and Assessment Orders.
