People or human trafficking is the illegal trade of people usually for forced labour or commercial sexual exploitation. Sometimes people are trafficked for forced marriage and organ donation.
Many of these people are at risk, unable to protect themselves and are sometimes affected by mental health issues. Even in their home countries they may have been vulnerable because of poverty or social isolation, making them targets for traffickers to control.
The majority of trafficked people are women and children who then become sexually exploited. However the majority of people trafficked into forced labour tend to be male.
Child Protection guidelines on trafficking are being extended to cover adults.
