Role and functions

The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 provides the legislative framework for the establishment of local multi agency Adult Protection Committees throughout Scotland .

Guidance issued under Section 47 of the Act (effective from 2008), offers clear information relating to the role and functions of all Adult Protection Committees.

Adult Protection Committees are multi agency and their representation is made up of the following public bodies:

  • The Local Authority (or Council)
  • The Police (including local Chief constable)
  • The local Health Board

The primary role of the Adult Protection Committee is to ensure co operation and communication in and between agencies.

We have further responsibilities across all public bodies which include:

  • Keeping relevant procedures and practices reviewed
  • Giving information and advice as required
  • Assisting and improving the knowledge and skills of staff

We have more general responsibilities to raise awareness of Adult Protection and other issues within the South Lanarkshire area.
